Hackers can remotely hijack your iPhone with a simple text message.

Hackers can remotely hijack your iPhone with a simple text message:

An Israeli firm is selling iOS zero-days which allows hackers to remotely hijack of your iPhone

If you own an iPhone, update it right now even as you read this article because it can be hacked using three zero-days. According to news reports, an Emirati human rights activist named Ahmed Mansoor’s iPhone was hacked using one of the three zero-days an. Mansoor reportedly received an SMS message which promised new details of torture in the country’s state prisons, along with a link to follow if he was interested. If Mansoor had followed the link, it would have jailbroken his phone on the spot and implanted it with malware, capable of logging encrypted messages, activating the microphone and secretly tracking its movements.
The zero-days are reportedly being sold to world governments and authorities by an Israeli cyber security company called NSO Group. In fact, NSO Group is so secretive that it repeatedly changes its name to avoid undue exposure.
The incident came to light when Security company Lookout and internet watchdog group Citizen Lab investigated the cyber attack on Mansoor’s iPhone and found it to be the product of NSO Group, a “cyber war” organization based in Israel that’s responsible for distributing a powerful, government-exclusive spyware product called Pegasus.
Both the companies immediately notified Apple about the serious zero-days which NSO Group was selling and Apple immediately rolled out a patch for three previously unknown zero-day exploits that were used to target the iPhone 6 of Mansoor.
The vulnerabilities, known as “zero days” because they were previously unknown to Apple, give the hackers total access to an iPhone through a spear-phishing text message. Those text messages were designed to mimic the types of message a user might receive from a legitimate site, said the security researchers. Among those impersonated to get users to click on the links: the Red Cross, Facebook, Google, and even the Pokémon Company. Once clicked, the message downloaded malware, which gave the attackers total access to the phone.
“We were made aware of this vulnerability and immediately fixed it with iOS 9.3.5,” Apple said in a statement. “We advise all of our customers to always download the latest version of iOS to protect themselves against potential security exploits.”
The Citizen Lap report states that other NSO Group zero-day targets include activists and journalists in Yemen, Turkey, Mozambique, Mexico, Kenya, and the UAE.
Kindly update your iPhone/iPad to the latest version to avoid falling prey to such an attack. If you are somehow unable to update your iPhone/iPad kindly avoid clicking on even trusted links till your device is patched.

NO MAN'S SKY GAME HAS HOW MANY PLANETS?

According to developers there

18,446,744,073,709,551,616

planets in the Game And it requires 5 billion years to explore it completely!

Hello Games’ Sean Murray goes into more detail on the scope of his sci-fi epic
Hello PlayStation Blog! I’m Sean Murray, and I work at a little indie studio in the UK, making a game called No Man’s Sky. I’m writing this on a plane back from Gamescom, where we showed some press the game behind closed doors.
We’ve only done three days where we’ve talked to press about the game so far (two at E3 and one at the VGX show last year), but for an indie game we’ve had lots of interest and excitement. Something I’m still struggling to get my head around. So much so that I didn’t actually want to go to Gamescom! We’ve never actually shown any European press the game though, and we felt bad about that.
Sony provided a room and I gave 100 members of the press a demo of the game for an hour, together with a really rambling presentation… where I apparently never looked up at the crowd once
I can’t really remember what I said, but I guess I wanted to share some stories from development, and I thought maybe you’d find them interesting too.

No Man's Sky Game World of Worlds!

NO MAN'S SKY

No Man's Sky is an upcoming action-adventure survival video game developed and published by the indie studio Hello Games for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows. The game is scheduled to be released worldwide in August 2016.
No Man's Sky's gameplay is built on four pillars—exploration, survival, combat and trading—in which players are free to perform within the entirety of a procedurally generated deterministic open universe, which includes over 18 quintillion (1.8×1019) planets, many with their own set of flora and fauna. By exploring, players gain information about the planets that they can submit to The Atlas, a universal database that can be shared with other players of the game. Players get compensated in in-game currency every time new information is uploaded to The Atlas. Players also gain materials and blueprints to upgrade their character's equipment and purchase a variety of starships, allowing them to travel deeper into the center of the galaxy, survive on planets with hostile environments, interact in friendly or hostile manners to computer-controlled space-faring factions, or trade with other ships. Some activities, such as killing too many lifeforms or draining too many resources from planets, will draw the attention of Sentinels that will attempt to kill the player-character.

DEVELOPERS
The onset of development for No Man's Sky arose from Hello Games' co-founder Sean Murray sometime during the development of Joe Danger 2, which he compared to a mid-life crisis for himself. Murray, a former developer at Criterion Games for the Burnout series, worried the studio would be falling into a rut of producing sequel after sequel as was the case at Criterion. When Hello Games had problems with an American publisher, Murray realized they had an opportunity to create a completely new title based on a concept he had since he was a child, when he had aspirations of being an astronaut, envisioning oneself as being the first human to step onto an alien planet.

iPhone 7 to be released week of September 12

According to VentureBeat’s Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) — who has a stellar reputation for leaking information regarding mobile devices — the iPhone 7 is set to release during the week of September 12. This coincides with previous reports that the device was set to drop in early/mid September.
If the rumors are to be believed, this generation of the iPhone family could be largely unchanged (appearance-wise) from the last two years.  Historically, Apple has adhered to a rather strict tick-tock schedule with tick years being those that offer the most dramatic refreshes and tock years (the “S” models) being more of an incremental update.
This year, however, the refresh could end up being another tock year, with a much bigger update planned for the 10th anniversary, which coincides with the iPhone 7s — or whatever they decide to call it — next year. We might also see a fourth model added to the line to accompany the 7s, 7s Plus, and (possibly) a new-edition SE —the iPhone 7 Pro.

The departure could spell the end of the typical tick-tock cycle for a newer three-year upgrade plan, a tick-tock-tock, if you will.

While we still aren’t clear on the specifics of the new iPhone (a shorter, chubbier model maybe?), it’s generally a safe bet to believe Blass’ recommendations. But, as usual with Apple products, a lot can change between now and then.

Prisma app is now available for Android!

Prisma, the turn-your-photos-into-paintings app that’s been blowing up over the past few weeks, is now launching on Android in full form. That means you no longer need a beta invite, and can download it straight off the Google Play Store.

The app has only been available in beta form on Android for about five days, so this is a surprisingly quick turnaround. Then again, Prisma probably wants to take advantage of its current momentum as much as possible – especially amid rumors itmight be acquired.

Of course, Prisma is far from the first app to try to make your photos look like painted or drawn artwork. The difference here is its use of artificial intelligence makes the images look much more like they were created by actual humans than a simple algorithms.
Prisma’s co-founder shared some stats about the app in the short time it’s been available:

  • Over 400 million photos have been ‘prismed’
  • It’s been downloaded over 10.6 million times on iOS alone
  • The are over 1.55 million daily active users
  • Daily downloads maxed out about 700k
The Android app has all the same features as the iOS version, including over 30 filters and support for either taking a new photo or choosing existing ones from your gallery.
Video support – which the company has already demo’d – will launch in about “a week or so.” Prisma tells us live video support is also planned for the near future, but isn’t ready to provide more specifics.
Interestingly, Prisma says it’s going to delete the least popular styles “while adding a lot of cool new ones.” Some people will likely be sad to see some filters go, but we’d rather have a gamut of high-quality filters, so kudos to Prisma for cutting the weight.
